Local Music Sent To My Mailbox, I

I just received Helen Southall's cdr in the mail from Melbourne.
I was suprised when I heard it. Something worked on me after a few tracks and I moved closer in to the music, took my time to hear it, more of it.
The recordings are personal. The guitar is audible in a way secondary to the voice, strumming with a loose wrist bard's chords; picking sparse notes. Her voice has all the natural folk feeling imbedded into it, the English accent subtle.
The record I received, a self-titled and released disc came with recommendations from a friend and a record store owner in Melbourne just recently.
Having played regular sessions at Brisbane's Audiopollen, she often felt seperate from the other artists. Likely the impetus of making her type of music would provide that, saying that she goes for ther guitar when feeling melancholic. Being from Birmingham originally, she claims strong and initial influences of British folk music on her singing and playing.
Helen Southall listens to Charalambides, Christina Carter, and Spires That in the Sunset Rise among many other things of course. Her music is very original in its personality, and informed as well, in the best ways.

I have an outright affinity for psychedelic music and was pleased to hear these recordings. They come to me after a few years or so of being cognizant of Pip Proud, The Cherry Blossoms, Linda Perhacs, and These Trails. This ethereal music is some of the most creative I have heard, being so by being personal music, experimental music.

Here you can see Helen Southall's internet presence, and I am sure contact her should you have any further questions about obtaining her recordings:

Oh My Ben

I don't know if you all have had the pleasure yet of having seen any short films by Ben Marcantel, but I will give the great news that he has a channel up now on YouTube.
Ben's videos harken back to some real masters, and he does them justice. Stop-motion magic is his game, and his fervent productivity attracts many wonderful collaborators.
In his most recent upload, "Waltz of the Circassian Beauties", he is telling a tale over the always beautiful music of William Tyler, founder of Sebastian Speaks record label and collaborator with Ben Marcantel's music projects Forest Bride. William is also a fellow member of Hands Off Cuba, and both of these groups are just now releasing new records. So much going on to be excited about.
Love is Magick! indeed!!
Another of Ben's films is available on the Forest Bride link above.
The short "Face Continuum" is also available on YouTube currently.
Keep up with his channel, and hopefully some of his ongoing projects will be made available to us soon!

Ideas

And in follow-up to the Andrew Alexander photography press, here is a video by a fellow photographer & producer, Brian Siskind, of Beat Hollow, a Queens label and studio.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYB2it7S3Js

The film, titled "Ideas," is a short meditation on just that, but with another subject - an artist. The film follows some of the ideas behind Alexander's work, while explaining and experimenting with similar methods of image reprodution, projection, replication.
It's is a great short film on a working artist in which theory and method are discussed.
It is a very interesting, entertaining, short by Beat Hollow founder, Brian Siskind.
Highly recommended viewing.

Heavy Listening

I just recently received Firework Edition Label's <The Summerhouse> by M.Esposito & L.Elggren. It was a generous gift, which I absolutely enjoy.
Any of those interested in field recordings, and/or the world of EVP, are in for a treat.
The notes are amazing. They contain a wonderful tale by Elggren regarding some mysterious characters, including 'ol Swedenborg.
His teeth supposedly regenerated in this house, in the above photo, courtesy of the label. Also in this house, Swedenborg was in constant and direct contact with the spirits, assuming a secretarial role for himself, transcribing the multi-dimensional conversations or info blasts he was getting.
Included also is a recipe for the revered and top secret Semla. You're going to have to email either of us to find out if your interested....

Green Porno

If you haven't watched any of Isabella Rossellini's Green Porno on Sundance, you should really check it out. It is hilarious, beautiful, and truly exemplary short film.
It is wild that she is putting this stuff out with this team.
They are in the second season now, but one can watch them all for free on the Sundance site for free. I really recommend starting with the first season.
They look a lot better on the site than on YouTube.

Cheers

Andrew Alexander Photography Press

Andy Alexander has been getting a bit of recognition for his photographic work lately, and I want to let you all know that it is coming along strong.
Seems that his archives has been opened, and that a good amount of his work over the the past two years has come up for sale.
Having also lived with these works, I can attest to the beauty and surprise thereofv which they hold for endless months. These large photographs sit well in any atmosphere, and uphold a high integrity in your studio, workplace, or bedroom.

See more and better here. This is his blog, and from which, one can order photo's, as you very very should, and find all other sites pertaining to that which is A:.A:. aka Andrew Alexander.

Universe Premiers

One of the main objectives of this radio show is to play unique and beautiful music; music that is important to me and which I feel will resonate with that deliberation which even I am mirroring. I believe it to be of great importance to free up this medium by "air"-ing things for the first time.
Such has been the case with the Forest Bride box set, Good Rester, Alch3mi$t, Daniel Lofthagen, and, likely, others.
I am hoping that through this effort, a higher associative context will be allowed to manifest - perhaps the one for which I gesture.
Universe Premiers....

Still working on the audio archives, guys & gals. You'll get them.
